On Writer's Block

The way it moves inside of me is fickle, painful, joyful, the worst, the best, the almighty, and the devil.

I want so much to be free of it and yet beg it for more. I miss it when it leaves and curse it when I can’t stop it from flowing out of me.

I write. When it lets me. When I can’t help it and then it sucks me down into a place of broken pencils and scraped knuckles.

Tell it to come back, to stay away, to come here. A teasing tendril in a paragraph here and crumpled rubbish in the bin there.

To what measure do I go to find the words that once filled where the cognac now resides. It’s back, no it’s not. I rejoice, I ache, I drink.

The writer’s lot is its own sort of hell laced in heavenly façade. Nevertheless I’ll never give it up, for without it I am lost.
